Color Correction
For this work I reproduced on transparencies the work of XVI century engraver Theodor de Bry who created some of the earliest images of the Americas but never set foot in the continent. I photographed current inhabitants of Latin America using an app which produces a color palette based on the photo. I worked with those colors to produce a background for each of the individual pieces. Color Correction questions the veracity of de Bry’s engravings as illustrations of actual events while providing a contemporary addendum linked to the subjects.
